Zeed (ジード, Jīdo)
The leader of the Zeed gang, with "Z-666" tattooed on his head. He is the first villain that Kenshiro faces in the series.

Appearance[]

Zeed is a very tall and muscular man with no eyebrows, a Mohawk hairstyle and the number Z-666 tattooed on his forehead.
In the Toei anime, Zeed is shown to have grey-ish skin , accentuating his already monstrous visage.

Personality[]

Zeed is basically sets the standard of post apocalyptic Outlaws in the series, thus he's a ruthless opportunist that preys on those weaker than him without mercy to survive the wastelands, He'll even threaten or try to kill preteen children without any emotion just to get what he wants or hurt one of his enemies. Zeed is also someone that lives for the moment and is very prone to anger.
Though a cruel punk, Zeed does have something of a positive relationship with his men and he can be seen enjoying himself with his gang together after a mission. Zeed also isn't devoid of his compassion for his crew as he was enraged when he found out his men and were killed, immediately deciding to avenge them.

Fighting Style[]

Despite being Kenshiro's first opponent, Zeed is never seen fighting in the manga, though he is seen holding an axe at several points.
In the anime, he is seen throwing his axe with enough accuracy and force to completely destroy the tire of a moving jeep.
Zeed attacks with his fists and tackles with his bare body in the PS1 game.
In the Musou series, Zeed attacks with dual maces in a style based on raw power. He has the ability to jump high and pound the ground, rapidly bring down his maces to create small quakes to knock opponents off their feet, he can also toss one of his maces and retrieve another one for a ranged attack. Zeed is the first of several characters to use the dual mace moveset.

Manga & TV Series[]

Zeed and his gang are the first characters that appear in the manga and anime. After he and his men raid Lin's village, he holds Lin hostage, threatening to break her neck if his demands aren't met. He's confronted by Kenshiro, who dispatches him with the use of the Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken before Zeed can kill Lin.
In the 17th episode it is revealed that Zeed's gang was an ally of the King's Organization when Balcom is giving a recap of Kenshiro's encounters up to that point.

1986 Movie[]

Like the anime and Manga, Zeed (renamed "Zenda" in the English dub), attacks Lin's village and takes her as a hostage. After Kenshiro destroys all his men, he was defeated in a exactly same way as in the manga and anime.

Toki Gaiden[]

In this spinoff manga, Zeed is persuaded to attack the Village of Miracles by the vengeful Amiba. Zeed and his gang of thugs launch a night-raid but they are thwarted by the combined efforts of Toki, Juza and the villagers. Toki spares Zeed's life but erases any memory of the village or his encounter with Amiba with the Hokuto Kyomu Shi Dan (北斗虚無指弾, Big Dipper Empty Finger Bullet) technique.

Video Games[]

Hokuto no Ken 3 has Zeed, in the vein of Spade, steal Misumi's seeds. Misumi sends Kenshiro to recover the seeds and Zeed is killed in a boss battle.
Zeed appears in Hokuto no Ken Online. His girlfriend, Jera is also introduced.
In the PS1 game, Zeed is the first boss. He invades Lin's village searching for Kenshiro to avenge the death of his men similar to the manga.
Zeed appears as a boss character in Hokuto Muso. Zeed has been slightly redesigned, now having a blonde mohawk with a pony tail and Z-666 tattooed on his shoulders in addition to his forehead. In Legend mode, Zeed is a boss, while in the various dream mode Zeed can be an ally or enemy character.

Notes[]

  • Zeed appears to lack statistics in the Hokuto no Ken: Kyūkyoku Kaisetsusho: Seikimatsu Haō Retsuden guide.
  • Zeed's "What?" (何?, Nani) reaction to Kenshiro's Hyakuretsu Ken has become an internet sensation since 2016.
  • In the anime, Zeed is the first character to utter the word, "Hidebu" (ひでぶっ), though in the manga, the word was first uttered and popularized by Mr. Heart.
  • Danmatsuma: "Hidebu!"(anime only)
